Sol Steinmetz, Expert on Language, Dies at 80

William Safire called Sol Steinmetz a "lexical supermaven." My favorite comment, though, comes from Jesse Sheidlower, the editor at large of the Oxford English Dictionary:

“He never had a bad word to say about anyone. And he knew a lot of bad words.”
